Position Overview

The Institute for Policy & Social Research (IPSR) is a designated research center for the social sciences at the University of Kansas. The Research Aide will work within the Kansas Population Center, reporting to the IPSR Associate Research Scientist. This role focuses on economic research regarding individuals who provide and receive care in the United States, contributing to projects that develop indicators and statistics for the Care Board dashboard.

Job Description
  • 30% Work closely with the PI and other staff using a variety of methodologies to conduct economic research on individuals who provide and need care within the United States.
  • 30% Work on projects that integrate traditional economic data with methods that capture the reality of care work, developing more indicators for the Care Board.
  • 30% Conduct literature reviews providing comprehensive summaries and critical analyses of existing research on the care economy.
  • 10% Write blogs for the Care Board.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with related experience or classroom study.
  • Demonstrated experience using large household survey data to conduct research, economic analysis, and generate descriptive statistics.
  • Completion of nine credits in upper‑level economics courses in data science, econometrics, labor economics, or related area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in economics, public policy, or related area.
  • Demonstrated interest in the care economy, public policies related to public assistance programs, and overall wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a future career in economic research.
