The Remote Security Captain provides leadership, oversight, and operational support for security services in a remote industrial environment where health, safety, and security are the highest priorities. Assigned to the Kuparuk oil field, this position is responsible for supervising security personnel, ensuring compliance with company and client policies, maintaining strong client relationships, and overseeing the effective delivery of security operations that protect personnel, facilities, equipment, and critical infrastructure.
All duties are performed in accordance with NMS' mission, vision, and values. This position follows a two (2) weeks on, two (2) weeks off rotational schedule and is based at the Kuparuk oil field.
- Assign security personnel to posts and patrols while ensuring appropriate staffing levels and operational coverage.
- Supervise daily security operations and ensure compliance with client requirements, company policies, post orders, and standard operating procedures.
- Interpret and enforce security policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of operational, staffing, and client requirements while documenting business processes and workforce needs.
- Translate operational requirements into functional processes and maintain supporting documentation.
- Prepare employee work schedules and review leave requests for approval or denial.
- Maintain ongoing communication with clients to address security concerns, enhance service delivery, and foster positive working relationships.
- Receive, review, investigate, and resolve incident reports, irregularity reports, and other operational documentation.
- Complete and maintain required administrative records, reports, and business documentation.
- Conduct and oversee security‑related investigations and recommend corrective actions when appropriate.
- Review reports involving property damage, unusual occurrences, safety concerns, and security incidents to determine appropriate responses and corrective measures.
- Coordinate with client representatives, law enforcement, emergency responders, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as required.
- Develop, review, update, and maintain post orders, emergency procedures, and operational documentation.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation and respond to operational issues outside normal working hours.
- Serve as Incident Commander or within the Incident Command System (ICS) during emergencies, as appropriate to the nature and scope of the incident.
- Provide transportation services using vehicles ranging from standard passenger vehicles to buses and off‑road vehicles, as required.
- Provide emergency medical response, including CPR, AED use, basic first aid, and patient movement, within the scope of training and certification.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, or sanitation concerns and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
- Mentor, coach, and develop security personnel while promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of departmental and operational objectives.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Completion of at least two (2) years of post‑secondary education is preferred. Candidates without post‑secondary education must possess an additional two (2) years of directly related security, military, or law enforcement experience.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of full‑time professional experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
- Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a related field.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
- Ability to obtain an Alaska Guard License prior to employment. The applicant is responsible for the applicable licensing fee.
