Traffic Control Technician

Summary

The Traffic Control Technician provides responsible technical duties in support of the activities and services of the traffic engineering division, including installing and maintaining traffic control signs and markings, performing field maintenance services, sign design, sign fabrication, inventory control, and traffic counting; and to provide technical support to the traffic engineering division.

• Complete data entry and various forms to document work completed, equipment and/or supplies used.
• Assist with traffic counting via equipment and manual counts.
• Respond to emergency call‑out situations; install temporary control devices; remove and install signage in all types of weather; assist with directing traffic in emergencies.
• Be on‑call on a rotating basis.

• Equivalence to completion of the twelfth grade mandatory; prefer education supplemented by specialized training in sign design and fabrication, sign installation, sign field maintenance, traffic control requirements, or a related field.
• Strongly prefer two years of increasingly responsible experience in sign installation, sign field maintenance, or a related field.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license within six months of hire.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, IMSA Work Zone and Level I or II Signs and Markings certification within one year of appointment (IMSA Level I Signals).
• Must pass a background check, post‑offer physical and drug screen.
