Required Qualifications:
Eligible for Kansas Licensure in Special education, Social Work or related field. Minimum of 3 years experience working with individuals with disabilities, their families and schools.
Reports to:
Assistant Director of Special Education and/or the Building Principal
Job Goal:
The goals of the Transition Specialist are to work with staff, students and parents to implement a meaningful transition plan that includes planning, transition assessment and a post‑secondary goal for students aged 18‑21. Success in this goal will be seen in the IEPs that are clear in purpose, compliant with regulations, student focused and oriented to the post‑secondary goal. It will be necessary to collaborate with teachers, IEP teams and community agencies to ensure success.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Transition teachers to facilitate IEP development in the area of transition.
- Work with transition teams in a professional, collaborative and problem‑solving manner to create practices that remain committed to standards, self‑advocacy, data informed decision making and research‑based practices.
- Collaborate with parents, student and staff in the development and coordination of transition activities aligned with the post‑secondary goal and transition plan.
- Serve as liaison and facilitator of community agency services, families and schools, to help create a team effort in support of students and their families.
- Arrange for and provide training for staff in the area of transition and transition compliance.
- Develop and collaborate with community resources for outreach and parent education opportunities.
- Develop and collaborate with community employers for vocational training opportunities for students.
- Provide Indirect services to students in the area of transition
Essential
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to possess and maintain special education or social work licensure in the state of Kansas
- Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
- Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
- Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
- Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
- Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
- Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
- Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $51,000 to $84,942 Per Year
