The Department of Fire Services (DFS) is recruiting for the role of Instructional Program Coordinator – Fire Prevention ). This is a part‑time, contract position with no benefits. Candidates must upload a cover letter of certifications, and evidence of the highest degree obtained above high school if applicable.
Responsibilities- Coordinate all aspects of the training group at the MFA under the supervision of Program Coordinator III.
- Prepare the annual budget and training objectives in collaboration with Program Coordinator III.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for the training group and deliver all training sessions.
- Submit required documentation for credential and OEMS credits and monitor adherence to the annual budget.
- Develop new programs and update current programs in accordance with NFPA standards, including curricula, instructional materials, and student materials.
- Schedule course sessions and manage LMS information (location, resources, instructors, lodging, course materials).
- Verify and proof press releases for the PIO and administer the selection of students for priority courses.
- Act as a Lead Instructor or provide day‑of logistical support, research speakers, and secure participants for courses.
- Liaise between MFA and partner entities to deliver collaborative programs and maintain course completion documentation.
- Collaborate with Staff Services to recruit and develop instructors, direct technical supervision of assistant coordinators, and evaluate instructors annually.
- Maintain future course requests, prepare facilities and equipment, and resolve student or classroom issues.
- Operate in accordance with the Standard Operating Policies of the Commonwealth, DFS and MFA, and participate in coordinator meetings.
- Facilitate and host NFA courses, conduct simulation software trainings, develop virtual delivery platforms, and create simulations for training programs.
- Review training applications submitted for credential credit and award fire service activities, trainings, and functions to credential the Fire Prevention Officer Credential based on NFPA 1031.
- Serve as a technical expert to review all training and candidate applications for Fire Prevention Officer Credential.
- Minimum of four years of relevant fire service or emergency service industry experience (fire officer, fire investigator, training officer, or fire prevention position).
- Completed Fire Instructor II course and promoted to Fire Instructor II with the MFA and one year experience in curriculum development or four years of equivalent instructional curriculum development and course delivery experience.
- Credentialed to Fire Prevention Officer – Level 2 or Inspector 2 Certified.
- Thorough understanding of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Safety Code and associated NFPA codes and standards.
- Familiarity with sections of the International Building Code.
- Superior interpersonal skills, strong organization, team player, and demonstrated work record supporting required skills.
- MFA program knowledge, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiency.
