Lawrence Public Schools is an urban district serving more than 13,000 students, the majority of whom are economically disadvantaged. More than 70% of our students speak a language other than English as their first language. We are committed to ensuring that our students, who have for too long been underserved, are provided with a high quality, free, public education at their local, district schools.
The Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center. has been providing free Adult Basic Education and ESOL classes to the citizens of Lawrence, MA and the surrounding communities for more than 40 years. The ALC provides quality educational services to 500 - 600 students per year who desire to develop:
English language, literacy, numeracy, and technology skills for further education, job training, and better employment. We also provide instruction in civics to help prepare students to pass the USCIS Citizenship Exam.
The Vision of the Lawrence Public Schools - Adult Learning Center is to ensure that all English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) students achieve the learning goals they have set upon entry into our program. By improving students' skills in the areas of academics, language, technology, and workforce development, we will increase their opportunities to enter college, to obtain an industry-recognized credential, to expand their career choices, to enjoy a family-sustaining wage, and to become effective citizens of their community.
About the Technology Support Position:
The ALC part time Technology Support person will work for our evening program that runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to support adult learners and educators in accessing digital literacy tools (WiFi, Chromebooks, apps, laptops, LCD projectors, etc). The ideal candidate will assist the FT Instructional Technology Support Specialist in conducting ongoing inventory of all equipment, trouble-shooting I.T. issues, following up on Help Desk Tickets, checking to make sure all devices are powered up, connected to the network, and updated as needed, and creating a technology master plan for ALC.
The Technology Support person will ensure that all students and staff have access to quality digital learning resources that will prepare them for today's digital world.
Reports to:
ALC Principal and or Director of Operations of the Adult Learning Center. The Technology Support person will work collaboratively with the FT Instructional Technology Support Specialist, Head Clerk/Evening Clerk, and the ALC Evening Facilitator.
Responsibilities in conjunction with the ALC Principal will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Provide high quality technology support to all students and staff;
Conduct periodic digital literacy presentations for students and staff;
Assist in ensuring that all Help Desk Tickets are addressed & resolved;
Conduct daily equipment check of all laptops, Chromebooks, ensuring that they are operable, powered on, and connected to the network;
Assist in maintaining and updating inventory records of all ALC technology equipment and supplies;
Document a list of equipment and materials needed by students and staff;
Assist the Evening facilitator from time-to-time with technology needs to support students MAPT or HSE Practice testing;
Communicate effectively, consistently, and professionally with all students, and colleagues;
Keep current with developments & trends in the field of information technology and digital literacy;
Comply with all school, district, city, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws;
Adhere to rules of LPS - ALC & student confidentiality;
Complete other duties as assigned by the Principal.
