Job Type: This is a full-time non-exempt salaried position, 183 Days (LTU)

Position Summary

The Math Teacher will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a safe and inclusive classroom environment while ensuring instruction is aligned with the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Frameworks. This position requires the ability to design developmentally appropriate challenges, provide rigorous instruction, and implement processes that foster strong habits of mind. The ideal candidate supports diverse learning styles and creates opportunities for students to work both independently and collaboratively in grades 9–12.

A successful candidate will act out the ALA mission of providing a high quality, rigorous, college preparatory education for each student in a safe and nurturing learning environment that values hard work, determination and citizenship. Additionally, the candidate will have the capacity to build strong and lasting relationships with students and families.

Responsibilities
  • Teach, reinforce, remediate, and ensure mastery of academic content with individual students, small groups of students, and whole class(es) of students
  • [Course sections may include Advanced Honors Algebra I, Advanced Honors Algebra II, and/or Advanced Honors Geometry; may include section(s) of First Year Experience or Math Intervention]
  • Design and implement curricula and activities to meet Common Core standards and frameworks at the honors, pre-AP, AP, and early college levels
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and modify instructional practices
  • Maintain professional, consistent and ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues
  • Enlist families and community organizations as partners in our school’s mission
  • Provide support, accommodations, and attention to all students
  • Participate in school-wide planning, curriculum and professional development, collaborative team meetings, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where students are engaged and motivated, reinforcing expectations for behavior and teamwork
  • Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement
  • Comply with school, district, and statewide policies and regulations
  • Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards
  • Regularly assess and document student learning and progress
  • Complete other duties as assigned

  • Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusion
  • Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or related field
  • Massachusetts DESE Certification in Mathematics (Grades 8–12) REQUIRED
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply
  • Experience in urban education and a commitment to community engagement preferred
Pay Range
  • Salary in accordance with the Lawrence Teachers’ Union Contract ($59,988–$91,858)
