Position SummaryThe Health/Wellness teacher is responsible for educating students on physical, mental, and emotional well‑being. The role includes designing and delivering developmentally appropriate, engaging, and rigorous lessons on topics such as nutrition, fitness, substance abuse prevention, human development, and mental health awareness. Teachers create a safe and inclusive classroom environment, encourage healthy decision‑making, foster strong habits of mind, and adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Teach, reinforce, remediate, and ensure mastery of academic content with individual students, small groups, and whole classes.
- Design and implement curricula and activities to meet state/district standards and frameworks.
- Design and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards.
- Use assessment data to refine curriculum and modify instructional practices.
- Maintain professional, consistent, and ongoing communication with students, families, and colleagues.
- Enlist families and community organizations as partners in the school's mission.
- Provide support, accommodations, and attention to all students.
- Participate in school‑wide planning, curriculum and professional development, collaborative team meetings, grade‑level activities, and school‑wide functions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where students are engaged and motivated, reinforcing expectations for behavior and teamwork.
- Model and promote high expectations for student behavior and academic achievement.
- Comply with school, district, and statewide policies and regulations.
- Be accountable for students' mastery of academic standards.
- Regularly assess and document student learning and progress.
- Complete other duties as assigned.

- Proven history of successful collaboration.
- Capacity to build relationships on an academic, social and emotional level with students and families.
- Ability to take initiative and succeed in a fast‑paced classroom/school environment while remaining calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges.
- Demonstrated capacity to create and maintain a positive learning environment in which students' diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths and challenges are respected and utilized.
- Deep understanding of RETELL obligations and ability to meet SEI requirements for MA educators.
- Ability to reflect on teaching practices and use data to improve instruction.
- Willingness to accept and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and peers.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support inclusion.
- Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Massachusetts DESE Certification in Health (All Levels/Grades 9‑12).
- Experience working with high school students preferred.
- Bilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience in urban education and a commitment to community engagement preferred.
Salary in accordance with the Lawrence Teachers' Union Contract ($59,988–$91,858).
