Job Description

Location: Spark Academy, Lawrence, Massachusetts

Starting Date: Aug 17, 2026

Spark Academy is an innovative public school, part of Lawrence Public Schools, dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where every student thrives. Recognized among the top 4% of schools in the state as a “School of Recognition,” the school focuses on research-driven academics, frequent physical movement, and a strong values-based culture.

Teachers work 180 days a year, 5–8 professional development sessions annually, and 19 Tuesdays of additional PD (3:05‑4:10 pm). Hours are 7:38 AM–3:00 PM.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strong, positive influence in the classroom, consistently motivating students to learn.
  • Design, implement, and collaborate on high‑quality curricula that incorporate research‑based strategies to help students master Massachusetts and Common Core standards.
  • Set class‑wide and individual goals, provide specific and actionable feedback to support student progress toward academic goals.
  • Build supportive relationships with fellow teachers, associate teachers, and staff, and provide feedback to help develop associate teachers.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and intensive coaching with administration and colleagues, embracing a growth mindset to improve instruction, curriculum, and classroom management.
  • Wholeheartedly use school‑wide systems to ensure consistency, smooth transitions between classes and grades, and strong classroom culture.
  • Implement the school‑wide behavior system to establish high expectations, consistent routines, and a uniform learning environment.
  • Build trusting relationships with students and families in an advisory setting of up to 14 students, supporting students’ understanding of the school values:
    Seeking Justice, Perseverance, Active Living, Reason, and Kindness.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
