Job DescriptionPosition Overview:
Are you passionate about helping young learners move from being passive consumers of technology to active, creative creators and critical thinkers? We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative Elementary Digital Literacy & Computer Science (DLCS) Teacher to design and deliver engaging, hands‑on instruction to students in grades K‑5.
In this role, you will help students build foundational skills in computational thinking, digital citizenship, safety, and basic programming, aligned directly with the Massachusetts DLCS Curriculum Framework.
Key Responsibilities- Teach weekly DLCS classes to students in grades K‑5, introducing them to computer science concepts and digital literacy basics.
- Design units and lessons rooted in the four core strands of the Massachusetts DLCS Framework:
Computing and Society;
Digital Tools and Collaboration;
Computing Systems;
Computational Thinking. - Equip students with tools to navigate the online world safely, respectfully, and responsibly (Common Sense Media curriculum alignment preferred).
- Integrate age‑appropriate physical computing and coding platforms (e.g., Scratch Jr, Scratch, Blue‑Bots).
- Attend training and utilize the curriculum, especially if trained in Project Lead the Way.
- Collaborate with grade‑level teams to integrate digital literacy skills into core content areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies).
- Cultivate a classroom culture encouraging growth mindset, problem‑solving, and persistent debugging, actively encouraging under‑represented students in STEM.
- Valid Massachusetts DESE Teacher License in Digital Literacy/Computer Science or Instructional Technology for elementary levels, or early childhood with readiness to obtain a DLCS waiver/add‑on license.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred).
- Proficiency with educational ecosystems (Google Workspace for Education, Chromebooks, iPads, interactive displays).
- Strong understanding of elementary pedagogy and strong classroom management skills.
- Must successfully clear a CORI check and fingerprint‑based national background check (SAFIS) prior to employment.
Salary and benefits are established by the collective bargaining agreement between the School Committee and the Grafton Teachers' Association.
