Art Teacher - Anticipated Vacancy

The Guilmette Middle School is seeking a passionate, creative, and student-centered Art Teacher who believes every child is an artist and every classroom is a place for creativity, expression, and belonging. The ideal candidate creates an engaging studio environment where students develop artistic skills, build confidence, think critically, and communicate ideas through a variety of media.

• Design and deliver standards-based visual arts instruction that is engaging, rigorous, and accessible to all learners.
• Foster creativity while teaching foundational artistic techniques, art history, design principles, and visual literacy.
• Designs culturally and linguistically responsive instruction that provides meaningful access to rigorous grade-level content for multilingual learners and all students.
• Create a classroom culture where students feel safe taking creative risks and celebrating diverse perspectives.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students with varied artistic experience.
• Use formative assessment and student work to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and instructional leaders to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
• Display student artwork throughout the school to celebrate student voice and cultivate a vibrant learning environment.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and well-managed art studio that promotes independence and responsibility.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student growth, accomplishments, and classroom events.
• Participate actively in professional learning, collaborative planning, and school-wide initiatives that strengthen teaching and learning.
• Designs and delivers culturally responsive lessons that reflect students' identities, experiences, and assets while maintaining high academic expectations for all learners. (My favorite.)
• Creates culturally responsive learning experiences that foster belonging, engagement, and meaningful connections to rigorous content.
• Builds an inclusive classroom where students see themselves reflected in the curriculum and where diverse perspectives are valued and celebrated.
