Position Summary:

Lawrence Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Elementary Teacher for Leahy Elementary School. At LES, we are committed to creating a school community that centers equity, inclusion, and empowerment. Teachers at LES collaborate through a co-teaching model and receive consistent, embedded professional development to ensure all students receive meaningful, rigorous instruction in both academics and social-emotional learning. The ideal candidate is reflective, student-centered, collaborative, and passionate about growing as a professional in service of student success.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Planning and Preparation:

  • Maintain daily classroom design and instructional schedule
  • Implement Core Knowledge ELA and Envisions Math with fidelity
  • Tailor lesson plans to individual learners using formative assessment data
  • Classroom Environment:
  • Utilize Positive Behavior Interventions to support a positive classroom culture
  • Arrange small group learning to meet diverse student needs
  • Incorporate Zones of Regulation and SEL strategies into classroom routines
  • Demonstrate a warm, engaging, and energetic presence
  • Engaging Students in Learning:
  • Plan and pose rigorous questions using Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels
  • Use SEI (Sheltered English Immersion) strategies to support language learners
  • Intentionally design lessons with collaborative student dialogue
  • Utilize data to design targeted intervention and enrichment groups
  • Professional Practice:
  • Participate in weekly PLCs, team meetings, and individual coaching cycles
  • Engage with mission-aligned professional learning with a growth mindset
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date grade books
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences twice per year (Fall and Spring)
  • Attend IEP, 504, and RtII meetings as needed
  • Participate in family engagement events and outreach
  • Foster strong home-school partnerships
  • Complete Science of Reading training and apply learnings in practice
  • Fulfill assigned lunch/recess, arrival, and dismissal duties
  • Uphold all school-wide policies and expectations
  • Take on other duties as assigned by grade-level, department leaders, or the leadership team
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Effective classroom management and positive behavior systems
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies, including differentiation
  • Ability to analyze data and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Familiarity with Science of Reading and SEL frameworks
  • Willingness to participate in continuous professional growth
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues
  • Bilingual communication skills (highly valued)
  • Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Valid Massachusetts teaching license in the appropriate content area
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English
  • Experience or training in co-teaching models preferred
  • Experience with or openness to restorative practices and SEL curriculum
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and adult learning

  • Pay Range
  • $61,788 - $94,614
