Substation Engineer

Opportunity Overview

Substation Engineer, Level 3. You will work with all assigned substation projects from conception (Early Stage) through construction and commissioning (Execution). In the conceptual phase you will work with the Early-Stage Project Manager to support the engineering requirements and scope with the Development Group.

Support assigned project commissioning activities to meet corporate goals. You will report to the onsite Manager.

Location:

Juno Beach, FL with some travel required within North America. 1‑year contract assignment (W‑2).

• Secure engineering consulting resources from a list of approved suppliers by developing a scope of work, securing bids, evaluating, and awarding work through Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Group.
• Coordinate with other project team members and transmission owners to develop and secure a switchyard site, support any engineering updates, data and permits necessary to develop the switchyard.
• Competitively source, select and contract geotechnical, survey, engineering, and construction services, and support the E&C Cost Estimating Team with scope assumptions.
• Coordinate with other groups to ensure that the assigned E&C switchyard projects are successful. Generally responsible for representing E&C’s internal and external interests on assigned projects, including presentations/briefings on current progress, issues, and risk mitigation in meetings with various levels of management.
• Support Transmission Services during review of interconnection documentation including system impact studies, facility studies, reactive and harmonic studies and Interconnection agreements and ensure that Transmission Owner requirements and E&C engineering design are consistent.
• Work with and communicate often to the respective transmission owners/operators/ISOs to ensure project deliverables meet specific off‑taker requirements and are accurate.
• Manage all project long‑lead major material orders to minimize risk of delays or exceeding the project budget. Assist ISC with all switchyard project SOW creation, approval, and preparation of shopping carts for engineering services and materials promptly.
• Support E&C Estimating with template update via project feedback, technical support, and scope modifications.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil/Structural Engineering.
• 11+ years of experience in substation design and engineering of high‑voltage substation/switchyard projects.
• Project Engineering or Project Management experience.
• PMP or P.E. in related discipline.
• Some travel required within North America.

The base salary range for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $55.00/hr to $60.00/hr.
