The Role: Reporting to the Head of Engineering & Innovation in the Investment Management (IM) Data Solutions group, the Business Analyst – Technology & Innovation will assist in designing and architecting solutions to complex data integration, data science, process re-engineering, and automation challenges. This will involve the analyst working with internal clients to gain a detailed understanding of their needs and to evaluate new and innovative technologies to identify the most suitable solution.

The team supports the client throughout the entire lifecycle of a project, from design to implementation. A unique focus of this role will be to help manage a collaborative data platform that is being adopted by teams across IM while developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders. This is a unique opportunity to join the IM Data Solutions team, a small, multi-disciplinary group that is transforming the way data is created, used, and communicated in BNY Mellon IM.

Responsibilities:

  • Help manage a collaborative data science and data engineering platform.
  • Create and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across IM and the enterprise.
  • Onboard new users and provide ongoing training through demos, documentation, and office hours.
  • Consult with new users on data pipelines, databases, visualizations, and other applications.
  • Support the team by staying abreast of the latest technology developments, both internal and external.
  • Take initiative to contribute to team efforts in data science, analytics, and software development.
  • Work with Data Engineers and Data Scientists to enhance processes and enable faster insight-generation from complex datasets.
  • Serve as an evangelist for modern data engineering and data science practices across the enterprise.
  • Qualifications:

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS Degree (advanced degrees and/or CFAs are a plus).
  • At least 2-3 years of general business experience, particularly in financial services, asset management, management consulting, or equivalent environments (more experience is acceptable too, e.g., career switchers).
  • Strong generalist able to add value in various ways.
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-facing skills.
  • Passion for helping others succeed.
  • Can-do attitude, willingness, and ability to navigate processes and work with purpose/business areas across the organization.
  • Strong writing skills, ability to summarize technical information clearly.
  • Some level of hands-on data/coding experience, particularly in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with modern data pipelines and/or data management platforms (e.g., Dataiku, Alteryx, Spark) a plus.
  • Familiarity with basic machine learning algorithms and techniques a plus.
