Overview
The Grade 3 Machinist position is an overtime-eligible, senior craft position that reports to the Machine Shop Management team. The Grade 3 Machinist is responsible for manufacturing parts that meet or exceed Charm Sciences standards, with a high level of precision on all piece parts manufactured within the machine shop. Grade 3 Machinist is an A/R Class A Machinist. The pay range for this position is $27.50 to $41.00 per hour.
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and other factors in accordance with Applicable Laws.
- Set Up and Operate All manufacturing equipment with minimal supervision:
Proto-Trak Millers and Proto-Trak Lathe, Surface Grinder, to fabricate tools, fixtures and Charm Sciences Products. - Determine machining operations, tool selections, setups and develop processes and procedures using Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement techniques.
- Keep accurate records of work performance, processes and procedures, order of operations, tooling used for specific features, and setup methods for each specific job.
- Inspect and document first piece, in-process and final inspection and confirm other machinists’ first pieces.
- Select and use all necessary measuring tools, conventional hand tools, gauge pins, calipers, micrometers, depth gauge, and B&S Micro-Hite 350.
- Work from drawings, sketches, or verbal and written instructions; interpret blueprints with GD & T.
- Operate various machine shop equipment (saws, belt sanders, grinders, drill press, shear, brake) and office equipment (computer).
- Communicate and understand job instructions verbally and in written English; maintain excellent work ethic and professional attitude; self-motivate.
- Follow managements rights to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Required:
HS Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years machining experience or a combination of experience and technical school training. - Work between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday–Friday, with availability on some Saturdays as needed.
- Perform highly technical and close tolerance work to engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
- Program and operate PROTO-TRAK or equivalent milling and lathe machines with minimal supervision; thorough knowledge of tooling, fixtures, and machine setup to achieve quality precision machined components.
- Ability to determine the need for and fabricate jigs and tooling.
- Able to program Fadal and HAAS VMC from the Controller using CNC “G & M” codes; working experience with BOBCAM software.
- Knowledgeable in Solidworks; skilled with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Must possess dexterity to manipulate parts and visually detect discrepancies; able to remain stationary for extended periods at bench or desk.
- Occasional movement around the machine shop and main facility; production environment with generally noisy conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when required.
