This is a grant-funded, non-union position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.
The City of Lawrence seeks an Energy Advocate to advance energy affordability and promote healthy homes for residents and small businesses. This role focuses on helping neighbors reduce high utility bills and improve indoor air quality and comfort by connecting them to local, state, and federal energy efficiency and sustainability programs, including Mass Save.
The Energy Advocate will lead community outreach with a special focus on renters, landlords, small businesses, and households that speak languages other than English. The position reports to the Director of Community Development and works closely with the statewide Community First Partnership (CFP). As part of a cohort of Energy Advocates across Massachusetts, the successful candidate will receive training and ongoing support from the City of Lawrence and Mass Save Program Administrators (National Grid and Eversource).
Key Responsibilities Community Outreach- Create and execute a local outreach plan aligned with City goals.
- Host information sessions; table at community events; visit small businesses.
- Promote Mass Save through radio, social media, flyers, and other channels.
- Participate in the statewide CFP cohort.
- Elevate Lawrence’s needs and strengths, centering majority-minority neighborhoods and underrepresented groups.
- Build and maintain partnerships with nonprofits, schools, faith communities, tenant and landlord organizations, and business associations.
- Coordinate shared events and collaborative outreach efforts.
- Guide residents and small businesses through next steps.
- Warm‑transfer customers to appropriate vendors, track follow‑up, and troubleshoot barriers through successful enrollment.
- Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers and interns to expand outreach and language access.
- Record outreach activities and referrals in Salesforce or spreadsheets.
- Protect customer information and comply with Mass Save privacy requirements.
- Participate in trainings, share learnings across communities, and recommend improvements to CFP processes.
- Employment Status: Grant-funded, non-union position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of grant funding.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week; some evenings and weekends required for community events.
- Compensation: Up to $85,500 annually (approximately $44.50/hour
). - Term: Temporary position through March 14, 2028
. - Location: Lawrence, MA, with frequent field work throughout the city.
- Other: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally preferred.
Essential
* Fluency in Spanish and English.
* Strong communication, public speaking, and community engagement skills.
* Experience working with diverse communities across languages and income levels.
* Creative outreach skills, including social media and partnership strategies.
* Proven relationship‑building skills aligned toward shared goals.
* Customer‑service mindset with consistent follow‑up.
* Comfort tracking activities and basic metrics using spreadsheets or similar tools.
Preferred
* Experience with CRM tools such as Salesforce.
* Familiarity with energy efficiency or sustainability programs.
* Experience coordinating volunteers or interns.
* Demonstrated ability to motivate people to take action.
What Success Looks Like
* Clear quarterly targets for outreach touches, referrals, and completed enrollments.
* Measurable participation growth among renters, small businesses, and non‑English‑speaking households.
* Strong partner network with regular coordination and shared events.
Timely, accurate data entry and respectful handling of customer information.
