Department: Samaritans of Merrimack Valley

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Direct Reports: Training Coordinator

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Type: Hybrid Role (In-Person & Remote)

FLSA: Exempt

Overview

The Director of Family Services’ Samaritans of Merrimack Valley program will be responsible for leading the organizations’ suicide prevention programming, including a menu of evidence-based trainings, support groups, and individual loss survivor support. The Director will be responsible for partnering with mental health and suicide prevention organizations around the state and participating in relevant coalitions and committees. As challenges and opportunities in the field of suicide prevention evolve, the Director will be responsible for proactively designing or modifying programming to stay abreast of best practices and address emerging needs.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all aspects of the Samaritans’ Department at Family Services, ensuring implementation of services that have a measurable impact on individuals served and are done so with a high level of quality, ethical standards, effectiveness, and compassion.
  • Proactively set, track, and exceed goals and objectives for each direct service project.
  • Collaborate with organizational leadership to establish the strategic direction of Family Services’ suicide prevention services.
  • Conduct direct services, including suicide prevention trainings, community presentations, facilitation of support groups, suicide loss survivor visits, and other services as needed.
  • Provide supervision, support, coaching and oversight of designated program staff, ensuring strong performance, providing opportunities for growth, and accountability.
  • Initiate new programs and services, grounded in evidence-based practices, that respond to emerging needs and newly identified trends in the field of suicide prevention and postvention.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for government contracts and private grants, ensuring adherence to grant requirements related to programming, data collection, goals, reporting, and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other organizations, coalitions, work groups and leaders in the fields of suicide prevention, mental health, public health, and other relevant areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or at least 2 years of work experience in the suicide prevention field).
  • Strong organizational skills to balance administrative duties necessary for grant management, budget oversight, and adherence to agency policies, and direct service demands.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration and staff supervision.
  • Experience conducting trainings and interfacing with the community.
  • Knowledge of best practices in suicide prevention, and related topics (risk factors, warning signs, trends, effective interventions, etc.).
  • Effective communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team member.
  • Experience establishing and overseeing budgets.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • This is a 40 hour per week, Exempt, benefited position with a pay range of $28-$31 per hour, commensurate upon experience.
