Direct Support Shelter Advocate

This position is part of a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week team of professionals providing shelter and support for homeless families in Lawrence, MA. Responsibilities include the provision of basic services to clients and the safe day‑to‑day operation of the shelter.
Shift times include first shift (7am‑3pm), second shift (3pm‑11pm), and third shift (11pm‑7am). Hourly pay is up to $20.
Responsibilities- Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist residents as needed
- Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents
- Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift
- Intervene if a resident is in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal)
- Complete assigned tasks of shift
- Maintain order and cleanliness of the shelter
- Attend and participate in monthly meetings and any other client required trainings
- Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, disabilities or other at‑risk populations
- Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills — both written and oral
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5‑20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Sitting, standing, reaching above, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, traversing, thinking, speaking, writing, concentrating, interaction with others.
