As an agency, our services are diverse; we provide emergency, transitional, permanent and affordable housing, and support services, to low-income individuals and families.

Job Title: Relief House Manager
Reports To: Program Coordinator
Location: Lawrence, MA
Position Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Overview

The Relief House Manager runs the Shelter program under the supervision of the Program Manager/Coordinator. Relief House Managers are responsible for ensuring that the house runs smoothly according to the program guidelines and structure. They are available to the residents for support and are responsible for enforcing all of the rules and policies of the house.

Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions
  • Manages the operations of the program during the evening and weekends
  • Responsible for admitting residents as they enter shelter with Heading Home, and ensuring the appropriateness of each resident for placement at the Shelter
  • Responsible for making supplies available
  • Reads and updates staff logs with any and all-important information that occurs during their shift
  • Maintains appropriate logs of evening and weekend activities
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings
  • Adheres to all agency and program policies, procedures and rules

Work Environment

(should include noise level, physical demands such as bending, sitting, lifting) Example:

Cubicle space within large office building; prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer, OR, requires equal amounts of sitting and standing, must be able to climb stairs. Office is open to the public and visitors only by appointment. Position requires a minimum of four days onsite. Office is climate controlled with heat and air conditioning.

Requirements Qualifications / Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED Required;
    Some college preferred
  • Two years of experience with homeless and/or other disenfranchised groups preferred
  • Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, or other at-risk populations
  • Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills both written and oral
  • Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5-20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
