Per KRS 171.230–300, full-time employees who provide information services to the public are subject to Kentucky public library certification requirements. Because this position is part-time, certification is not required unless otherwise determined by the Library or applicable KDLA requirements.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Adult Services Librarian and Library Director, the Adult Services Programmer is responsible for planning, preparing, promoting, and executing engaging programs for adult patrons ages 18 and older. This position takes an active role in developing programs that respond to community interests and needs and is responsible for carrying assigned programs from initial idea through completion and evaluation.
The Adult Services Programmer also participates in adult outreach programming, community events, and library-wide initiatives. This position requires regular evening and Saturday availability to support programming and community engagement.
The Adult Services Programmer works collaboratively with the Adult Services Librarian, Adult Services staff, and other library departments to support Anderson Public Library’s mission of Inspiring Curiosity, Fueling Imagination, and Building Community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Adult Programming – 65%
- Plan, develop, and present engaging programs for adults ages 18 and older based on community interests and needs.
- Manage assigned programs from planning through completion, including supplies, setup, presentation, and cleanup.
- Coordinate with presenters, community partners, and library staff as needed to develop and promote programs.
- Plan programs in advance and work within established programming budgets and purchasing procedures.
- Maintain program statistics and evaluate programs to help guide future planning.
- Assist with major Adult Services and library-wide programs and events.
Outreach & Community Engagement – 20%
- Develop and present adult programs at off-site locations as assigned.
- Participate in Adult Services outreach activities and promote library programs, services, collections, and resources throughout the community.
- Represent Anderson Public Library at community events, fairs, festivals, and other outreach opportunities.
- Interact positively and professionally with community members and partner organizations while representing the library.
- Assist with setup, staffing, activities, and cleanup at library outreach events.
- Help identify opportunities for Adult Services programming, partnerships, and community engagement.
Participation in community events is an essential function of this position and may require evening and weekend hours.
Adult Services & Library Support – 10%
- Assist the Adult Services Librarian with displays, special projects, seasonal initiatives, and department activities.
- Provide friendly and professional assistance to library patrons.
- Help patrons locate library materials and information and refer questions to appropriate staff when necessary.
- Promote library resources, including digital resources, databases, programs, collections, and services.
- Assist other departments and with library-wide activities when needed.
- Maintain a working knowledge of library policies, programs, services, and resources.
Other Duties – 5%
- Attend staff meetings and training as required.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of library user information.
- Follow library policies, procedures, professional standards, and safety practices.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff across departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Training, and
Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
- Experience in programming, event planning, library service, or other public service preferred.
- Experience planning and presenting programs or activities for adults preferred.
- Comfortable using computers, technology, and audiovisual equipment.
