Per KRS , full-time employees who provide information services to the public are subject to Kentucky public library certification requirements. Part-time employees may be required to meet applicable certification requirements as determined by the Library or KDLA requirements.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Children's & Family Services Librarian and Library Director, the Teen Services Programmer is responsible for planning, preparing, promoting, and executing engaging programs for teens ages 12-18. This position takes an active role in developing programs that respond to teen interests and needs and is responsible for carrying assigned programs from initial idea through completion and evaluation.

The Teen Services Programmer also participates in teen outreach programming, community events, and library-wide initiatives. This position requires regular after school and evening availability, with occasional Saturday hours, to support programming and community engagement.

The Teen Services Programmer works collaboratively with the Children's & Family Services Manager, Youth Services staff, and other library departments to support Anderson Public Library's mission of Inspiring Curiosity, Fueling Imagination, and Building Community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teen Programming - 65%
  • Plan, develop, and present engaging programs for teens ages 12-18 based on teen interests and needs.
  • Manage assigned programs from planning through completion, including supplies, setup, presentation, and cleanup.
  • Coordinate with presenters, community partners, schools, and library staff as needed to develop and promote programs.
  • Plan programs in advance and work within established programming budgets and purchasing procedures.
  • Maintain program statistics and evaluate programs to help guide future planning.
  • Assist with teen Summer Reading activities and major Youth Services and library-wide programs and events.
Outreach & Community Engagement - 20%

Participation in community events is an essential function of this position and may require evening and weekend hours.

  • Develop and present teen programs at off-site locations as assigned.
  • Participate in teen outreach activities and promote library programs, services, and resources throughout the community.
  • Represent Anderson Public Library at community events, fairs, festivals, school events, and other outreach opportunities.
  • Interact positively and professionally with teens, families, community members, schools, and partner organizations while representing the library.
  • Assist with setup, staffing, activities, and cleanup at library outreach events.
  • Help identify opportunities for teen programming, partnerships, and community engagement.
Youth Services & Library Support - 10%
  • Assist the Children's & Family Services Librarian with displays, special projects, seasonal initiatives, and department activities.
  • Provide friendly and professional assistance to library patrons.
  • Help patrons locate library materials and information and refer questions to appropriate staff when necessary.
  • Promote library resources, including digital resources, databases, programs, collections, and services.
  • Assist other departments and with library-wide activities when needed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of library policies, programs, services, and resources.
  • Perform circulation duties as scheduled, including checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, handling holds, and assisting patrons with basic account questions.
  • Assist with shelving, shelf reading, and maintaining orderly library spaces as assigned.
Other Duties - 5%
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities as appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality of library user information.
  • Follow library policies, procedures, professional standards, and safety practices.
  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff across departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education, Training, and

Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred.
  • Experience in programming, event planning, library service, education, youth services, or other public service preferred.
  • Experience working with teens preferred.
  • Experience planning and presenting programs or activities for teens preferred.
  • Comfortable using computers, technology, social media, and audiovisual equipment.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Creative and confident in planning and presenting programs for teens.
  • Ability to interact positively and appropriately with teens ages 12-18.
  • Strong communication, organization, time-management, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to independently manage groups of teens in a safe and engaging environment.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with others, and meet deadlines.
