OBJECTIVE

To efficiently carry out construction, operations and maintenance responsibilities in order to provide maximum service to the Cooperative’s membership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs individually or with the assistance of other personnel, all phases of construction, operations and maintenance of energized or de-energized lines.

Performs all types of conversion, switching and fusing.

Installs transformers, transformer banks, breakers, regulators and auto boosters with little or no supervision

Keeps informed of safety measures and is proficient in first aid including artificial respiration and pole top resuscitation.

Observes for any hazardous conditions and/or potential line failures and corrects or reports condition to supervisor.

Cuts right of way and trims trees as required.

Assists in the digging of holes, setting anchors, alignment and framing of poles.

Attends and participates in all safety meetings scheduled by the Cooperative.

Performs supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Crew Chief.

Receives service calls when on-call and sees that the request is handled promptly and completes required outage reports.

Responds to requests for assistance during major events as needed.

Maintains assigned tools and equipment.

Operates efficiently all types of line equipment and devices assigned.

Directs and relays customer complaints and information to the proper authority.

Trains and directs occasional personnel as may be assigned.

Drives and operates vehicle assigned and sees that vehicle is neat and orderly.

Keeps informed of EKP line switching procedure and performs as directed by EKP dispatcher.

Keeps informed of all Blue Grass Energy feeds and circuit diagrams with SCADA protocol.

Performs substation power restoration with proper protocol.

Follows BGEnergy Safety Manual as well as BGEnergy policies and procedures.

Continues to perform all tasks of Line Technician 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Must have five years’ experience in the Line Technician training program or equivalent line experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Ability to effectively read and follow operations, technical and safety manuals. Ability to follow directions and work with other line technicians and warehouse personnel, as assigned. Ability to communicate with other line technicians and crew chiefs and work with co-workers to solve problems. Able to complete reports and other paperwork and perform mathematical calculations. Must maintain certification in climbing poles. Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.

Must maintain certification in pole top and bucket truck rescue.

Must have vision/color perception, ability to hear and reach overhead.

Must be able to perform all tasks listed in the position descriptions for Line Technician 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Required to pass a physical examination when employed. Must have sufficient health to perform the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the job.

Occasionally (1-33%) lifts up to 100 lbs., frequently (34-66%) lifts up to 50 lbs., and continuously lifts up to 10 lbs.

Occasionally (1-33%) squats and kneels. Required to frequently (34-66%) bend/stoop, climb poles and balance.

Must be able to use his/her hands and feet for repetitive physical tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Exposed to noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, and operating equipment. Outside work under varying and at times severe weather conditions and subject to irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. This position serves on-call during emergencies and on-call rotation as assigned. Management reserves the right to disqualify employees for this position who cannot reach their regular work location from their residence within a reasonable length of time.
