Position Summary

The Director, Accounting is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting and financial operations for Elma Electronic's North American business. This role oversees financial reporting, month-end close activities, cost accounting, internal controls, compliance, budgeting support, and finance process improvement initiatives.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Finance Americas, the Director serves as a key member of the finance leadership team, providing financial insight and operational support across multiple functional areas. The role will also lead and develop the accounting team while ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, inventory accounting, fixed assets, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial records and reporting.

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance

• Oversee product costing, inventory valuation, variance analysis, and manufacturing financial reporting.
• Analyze operational performance and profitability trends.
• Partner with manufacturing and operations leadership to identify cost improvement opportunities.
• Monitor inventory controls and support physical inventory and cycle count activities.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis

• Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve business performance.
• Develop and maintain key financial and operational performance metrics.
• Assist leadership with financial modeling, business analysis, and decision support.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, coach, and develop accounting and finance team members.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Support employee development, succession planning, and knowledge sharing within the department.
• Establish performance expectations and monitor achievement of departmental goals.

Compliance, Controls & Audit Support

• Maintain effective internal controls and financial governance processes.
• Coordinate internal and external audit activities.
• Support tax reporting and compliance requirements.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Drive financial process improvements and workflow efficiencies.
• Support the ongoing optimization of Microsoft Dynamics 365 and related financial systems.
• Improve reporting capabilities, data integrity, and process standardization.
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing accounting or finance professionals.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Experience with in a manufacturing, industrial, or engineered products environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading month-end close and financial reporting processes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.

Preferred

• CPA, CMA, or MBA.
• Multi-site manufacturing experience.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365.
• Experience supporting ERP implementations, upgrades, or finance transformation initiatives.
• Experience working within an international business environment.
