An ICC Soils Inspector performs field and laboratory testing, site observations, and inspections of construction materials. They ensure building foundations, earthwork, and grading comply with project specifications and structural safety codes.
A typical day-to-day role involves the following key responsibilities:
- Field Testing & Observation: Monitoring site preparation, grading, and fill placement to ensure soils are properly compacted and classified according to building plans.
- Material Sampling: Collecting soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt samples on-site and transporting them with proper documentation to the laboratory for further analysis.
- Cross-Communication: Coordinating with project managers, engineering technicians, clients, and contractors to ensure construction requirements are met.
- Reporting: Tabulating test results, recording field observations, and preparing both written and digital reports for daily transmittals.
- Compliance: Ensuring building projects adhere to ASTM and AASHTO standards, as well as company quality and safety requirements
