JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Manager is responsible for managing all lighting and audio operations for performances, events, and rentals at the Lawrenceville Arts Center. This role provides expert-level oversight of equipment setup, operation, and maintenance to ensure exceptional production quality across all LAC programs and rentals. The manager will work collaboratively with internal staff, performers, and rental clients to coordinate technical needs and deliver seamless event experiences.

This position also serves as the City’s primary liaison with Aurora Theatre’s Technical Services team to ensure aligned operations and support. Additionally, the manager supervises contract technicians, maintains inventory, and ensures safety and compliance standards are upheld.

MAJOR DUTIES
  • Oversee all lighting and audio design, setup, operation, and breakdown for LAC performances, programs, and special events.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for rental clients; provide support during pre-event planning and on-site execution.
  • Collaborate with production teams, artists, and staff to determine technical needs and creative direction for each event.
  • Maintain lighting and audio systems, including troubleshooting, repairs, and routine maintenance.
  • Schedule, train, and supervise part-time and contract technicians to ensure consistent quality and professionalism.
  • Support rentals by coordinating and assisting with the hiring and scheduling of overhire technicians as needed for client events.
  • Manage technical budgets, track expenditures, and ensure efficient use of resources across lighting and audio operations.
  • Maintain inventory of lighting and audio equipment; recommend upgrades or replacements as needed.
  • Ensure all technical operations comply with safety codes, regulations, and venue policies.
  • Develop and implement internal processes, checklists, and standard operating procedures to ensure technical efficiency, consistency, and preparedness.
  • Function as Manager on Duty for select events, ensuring all technical execution aligns with LAC standards and provides a professional experience for performers and audiences.
  • Support cross-functional event planning and participate in internal meetings to align technical services with program goals.
  • Assist with room flips and space transitions to ensure smooth turnover between events, including coordination of technical, logistical, and operational elements
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Complex General Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

  • The work consists of varied technical production duties focused on lighting and audio management, requiring coordination with multiple stakeholders, including event organizers, performers, production teams, rental clients, and city officials.
  • This role demands expertise in theatrical lighting systems, audio engineering, and overall venue technical operations to ensure consistent, high-quality production standards across all events hosted at the Lawrenceville Arts Center (LAC).

  • The purpose of this position is to oversee and manage all lighting and audio elements for events and productions at LAC, while also assisting with other technical aspects such as room flips, rigging, or basic stagecraft. Successful performance in this role supports the city’s cultural and economic development goals by ensuring seamless and professional technical execution for all LAC events.
