Meet Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field required.
Education QualificationsBachelor's degree in special education required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience QualificationsThree years experience in preschool (3 - 5 years old) educational settings with varying disabilities including autism, emotionally disturbed, other health impaired, and intellectually disabled required.
Skills QualificationsDemonstrate exemplary teaching and diagnostic assessment skills. Ability to train in behavior management strategies, data collection, classroom management plans, functional behavioral assessments for disruptive behaviors, and behavior intervention plans. Ability to develop teachers to implement effective plans.
Primary Responsibilities- Consult with local school administrators and/or classroom teachers to develop and maintain academic, as well as behavior management, program.
- Demonstrate knowledge of availability of programs and support services throughout the district.
- Model academic and behavioral intervention and associated strategies in the classroom.
- Provide and demonstrate physical assistance, transport and restraint techniques, and behavior management maintenance in crisis situations.
- Evaluate student progress with specific behavior management strategies to determine appropriate course of action.
- Monitor implementation of behavior goals and objectives and subsequent data collection.
- Maintain positive communication as needed with parents concerning progress in program.
- Conduct in-service programs regarding special education, specific program areas, and management techniques for teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents.
- Support and promote teachers in collaborative efforts with general education teachers to transition special education students into the general education environment.
- Where appropriate, communicate and work collaboratively with general education teachers to support students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
- Assist and consult with administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals regarding preschool/Significant Developmental Delay Special Education program guidelines.
- Facilitate collaboration among the preschool/Significant Developmental Delay program teachers and support personnel.
- Demonstrate a general understanding of IDEIA and state regulations for Special Education in accordance with program(s) in which they are assigned.
- Review student records according to due process and district guidelines.
- Inform designated special education coordinator of program progress, issues, and/or concerns.
