Position: Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) | Lawrenceville, Georgia
This opportunity seeks a skilled Orientation and Mobility Specialist to provide expert support for students with visual impairments. The position is a contracted role based in Lawrenceville, GA, with a start date ASAP and continuing through May 22, 2026. This part-time role offers 20-25 hours of work per week, allowing for a balanced schedule while making a meaningful impact on student independence and safety.

Key qualifications and experience include:
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) credential
  • Proven ability to assess and develop individualized mobility plans for visually impaired students
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and other support staff
  • Experience working within school settings, understanding the unique needs of children with visual impairments
  • Commitment to facilitating safe navigation and community access for students
Responsibilities include:
  • Conducting assessments to determine each student's orientation and mobility needs
  • Designing and implementing personalized training programs to enhance students' independence
  • Providing one-on-one coaching and instruction on safe travel techniques at school and in the community
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and related service providers to support students' educational goals
  • Maintaining detailed records of student progress and adapting strategies as necessary
