Position: Gwinnett County Police Officer I
Job Description
  • Assists with enforcing County and state laws when deemed necessary to provide a safe environment for the public.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports on crimes, violations and accidents committed within the County.
  • Assists in providing help to crime victims and the general public.
  • Assists in performing security checks of closed businesses and residential areas.
  • Assists in maintaining County car, uniforms, weapons and county property.
  • Attends and testifies in court on behalf of the County.
  • This position requires: 24 hours on call assignment, overtime, or working weekends, holidays, 10-hour, 12-hour, and rotating shifts.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Salary & Incentives

$55,923 with possible incentives up to:

  • $57,600 (3% educational incentive) for an associate degree
  • $59,278 (6% educational incentive) for a bachelor's degree
  • Hiring incentive up to 10% of the base salary for new hires
  • 5% night shift differential

The grade for this position is PL213.

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR COMPENSATION UNDER THE EMPLOYEE REFERRAL PROGRAM.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, or G.E.D.;
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to be eligible for Georgia P.O.S.T. certification;
  • Valid Driver's License from state of residency;
  • Must be 21 years of age, 20 years old at time of application;
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation including criminal, controlled substance, driving, work history, and physical agility testing.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to odors, dusts, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
