Job Summary
The Digital Accessibility Specialist II serves as the primary accessible technology contact and promotes compliance with college, state, and federal accessibility standards. This position provides digital accessibility training and support. The position conducts accessibility reviews and provides remediation strategies. The position evaluates technology acquisitions and application development projects and makes recommendations prior to purchase and/or implementation.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver digital accessibility-related professional development, documentation, and resources.
- Provide one-on-one support on technological and pedagogical practices related to digital accessibility.
- Perform accessibility reviews for digital content and recommend remediation strategies. Use accessibility checking software to review existing digital content and identify accessibility issues.
- Review Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs), conduct evaluations of proposed technology acquisitions and application development projects, and make recommendations to Information Technology leadership.
- Create accessible digital document templates.
- Manage vendors that provide document/content remediation, captioning, audio description, and other services and features that improve accessibility.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accessibility and compliance standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- 3 or more years of relevant experience; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- Experience working in higher education
- Graduate Degree
- Demonstrated experience supporting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Demonstrated experience with accessible content design and development, including accessibility compliance techniques and testing tools in creation and remediation of digital content.
- Two years' experience using learning management systems such as Brightspace by D2L.
