Description of DutiesJob Description: Join a dynamic local Public Health Epidemiology team, protecting the health of the populations of Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale Counties located outside of metro Atlanta, GA. Under broad supervision, the person in this role provides public health, epidemiology and nursing expertise in support of local public health operations; focuses on case/outbreak investigations of notifiable diseases including, but not limited to, vaccine preventable diseases;
provides professional nursing care in accordance with nurse protocols, policies and/or procedures; and focuses on the prevention of illness, injury, or disability, the promotion of health and maintenance of the health of populations. The position will work in the Epidemiology Program and provide guidance and support to the Infectious Diseases, Emergency Preparedness, Nursing, and Immunizations Programs. This position will respond to emerging public health threats, local preparedness response needs, and will rotate after-hours on-call.
Local travel within the three county jurisdiction is required.
Specific Job Functions:
- Performs surveillance, investigation and case management for reported notifiable diseases, clusters, and outbreaks, including preforming work in the field and on-site at facilities experiencing illness outbreaks.
- Provides education and technical guidance related to disease prevention and infection control.
- Provides treatment, administers medication/vaccines, and collects clinical specimens in accordance with nurse protocols, policies and procedures including.
- Provides technical assistance, education and consultation regarding infection control and disease prevention strategies
- Assists with new employee training, employee health, and ongoing training needs related to maintaining a healthy workforce.
- May participate in health fairs, serve on committees, make presentations, and respond to disasters.
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of nursing experience and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification; two (2) years of experience at the lower- level PH Nursing Prog Consultant 1 (HCP
210) or position equivalent and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification Preferred: Formal education in Public Health with a focus in Epidemiology (Bachelor or Master). 2+ years of local level Public Health Epidemiology work. Experience treating patients with communicable/infectious diseases. Board certified in Infection Control (CIC). 2+ years experience in an Infection Prevention role. Fluency in English & Spanish (Ability to both read & speak)
