Job SummaryThe student laboratory assistant will help with field work, prepare water samples for analyses, identify macroinvertebrates and maintain a clean and orderly workspace for ecology research studying the water quality effects of development at the Rowen site in Gwinnett County. The position will begin in Fall 2026 and could extend through Summer Fall 2028.
Responsibilities- Follow the proper procedures to clean glassware and other equipment.
- Prepare samples for analysis.
- Follow the proper procedures in the field to collect water and macroinvertebrate samples
- Identify macroinvertebrates
- Keep the lab space clean and orderly.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings to coordinate necessary tasks.
- Assist with other lab and field research tasks as needed.
- Must be enrolled in 6 credit hours or more at Georgia Gwinnett College.
- Successful completion of at least one biology, chemistry, or environmental science laboratory course at GGC.
- Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
- Must be good standing with Georgia Gwinnett College and maintain good standing for the duration of employment.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, responsible, and able to work independently.
- Must be comfortable working in a laboratory setting and following lab safety guidelines.
- Schedule flexibility must allow time each weekday to complete necessary ongoing daily tasks.
- Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science major interested in learning more about ecology research.
- Recommendation from a biology, chemistry, or environmental science laboratory course instructor at GGC.
