Job Description:

This job is a full time, benefited, FLSA Exempt position in the Technology and Operation Division that reports to the Chief of Police at Gwinnett Technical College. This position’s primary location will be the Lawrenceville Campus.

Commensurate with education and experience not to exceed the budgeted amount of $ 69,560/year.

Minimum Qualifications:

Job Code 07429

High school diploma or equivalent
* and* Two years of experience as a certified police officer. P.O.S.T certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum qualifications, ability to work with minimal direct supervision. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment. 10 years police law enforcement experience. Campus law enforcement experience.

Job Description

Summary:

The Campus Police Officer Police Sergeant will assist with management and leadership in the college’s campus Safety/ Security office under Chief of Police. Performs a full-range of assigned law enforcement duties to ensure effective operation of subordinate officers in order to maintain security and order on a technical college campus.
Qualified applicants that are invited to interview will be asked to complete a TCSG Pre-Employment Questionnaire prior to completing the interview portion of the selection process .
If offered the position, following the delivery of a written conditional offer of employment, the selected candidate must participate in/successfully complete the following post-offer screening activities: criminal history records check, medical examination, drug screening, psychological evaluation, deception test, and a motor vehicle records check.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Recommends officer staffing levels at various campuses

Plans and coordinates the day-to-day operations of campus officers including all scheduling of officers

Supervises and directs tasks of subordinate officers and follows performance management procedures when appropriate

Assists in measuring the effectiveness of public safety operations in the delivery of routine and emergency response services

May coordinate and/or conduct campus safety education and training for police officers, faculty, staff, and students. This may include coordinating the active shooter exercises each year as well as any other emergency management response training

Guards and monitors buildings. Answers alarms and investigates disturbances;
Investigates criminal complaints and vehicle and other accidents

Coordinates with State Patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions;
Apprehends criminal suspects and turns over to local jurisdiction for booking or incarceration

Inspects assigned area for fire or environmental hazards

Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against and maintain security of premises

Patrols premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates

Responds to fires, natural disasters or other hazardous events

Warns persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force if necessary

Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities
