Job Description
This position is responsible for performing journeyman level trades duties involving highly specialized traffic signal equipment. Depending on the assigned position level, the employee may serve as a lead worker, monitoring work, providing direction, and/or directing personnel in the proper repair and replacement of equipment. The role requires the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, accurately identify the root cause of problems, and determine appropriate corrective actions.
The employee must make timely, well-informed decisions related to repairs and equipment replacements to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Managing the ATMS/ITS on demand contact while overseeing contractor performance and compliance
- Coordinating and managing fiber locate requests while overseeing fiber locate contractors
- Inspecting ATMS related components of projects to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications
- Maintaining the communications network by troubleshooting issues, replacing field switches, and conducting fiber testing
- Maintaining traffic cameras through troubleshooting, firmware upgrades, and managing replacement schedules
- Maintaining the school flasher system to ensure proper operation and roadway safety
- Ability to communicate effectively and engage with staff, citizens, leadership, and elected officials as needed.
Job Requirements /Information
- This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.
The grades for this position are A12(3), B21(3), and B23(3). Salary will be dependent on education and experience.
Minimum QualificationsTrades Technician I (A123) - $40,000 - $48,574
- High School diploma or GED
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Once CDL is obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace policy.
Trades Technician II (B213) - $44,968 - $58,457
- High School diploma or GED
- Two years of trades experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Valid Driver's License
- IMSA certification as a Traffic Signal Technician Level 1
- Work Zone Safety Traffic certification
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Once CDL is obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace policy.
Trades Technician III (B233) - $53,286 - $69,271
- High School diploma or GED
- Four years of trades experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
- Valid Driver's License
- IMSA certification as a Traffic Signal Technician Level 1 and Level 2
- Work Zone Safety Traffic certification
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within 12 months of employment. Once CDL is obtained, this position will require DOT drug testing and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace policy.
