Gas Utility System Maintenance And Repair Position
This position assists in the maintenance and repair of the natural gas utility system.
Essential functions include stocking trucks with needed parts, locating and marking underground gas lines, operating heavy and light equipment, building regulators and meters, performing manual labor, back filling and patching holes and trenches, removing brush and trees, assisting with pipeline construction, fitting, and maintenance, constructing and installing gas pressure regulation and meter stations, installing new gas services, responding to emergency situations, locating and repairing gas leaks, repairing broken or damaged pipelines, painting meter stations, performing warehouse cleanup, and performing related duties.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include understanding of department safety policies, gas utility system maintenance and repair principles, area streets and roads, vehicle and equipment maintenance, operation of assigned vehicles and equipment, use of hand and power tools, problem solving, interpersonal relations, oral and written communication, and mathematical calculations.
The work consists of related technical duties with complexity due to inclement weather and field conditions. The purpose of this position is to repair and maintain the gas utility system, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of utility services.
Contacts are typically with coworkers, customers, vendors, contractors, and the general public to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services. The work environment includes sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping, lifting light and heavy objects, climbing ladders, using tools or equipment requiring dexterity, distinguishing between shades of color, and utilizing the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in a stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather, exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals, requiring the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, no experience needed, and possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
