Job Title: Area Operations Manager
Reports To: Director of Operations

Location: Lawrenceville, GA 30043
Summary: While job duties may vary over time, the primary responsibility is to provide customer service through operational leadership within a geographic area. The manager works with independent contract drivers and hourly workforce to execute daily deliveries, tasks and activities in a consistent manner with company services and cost objectives. The role includes monitoring service levels, ensuring safety, maximizing revenue per mile, engaging in prospecting, interviewing and contracting drivers or hiring employees as needed.
Position Status: Salary Exempt Position. Exempt employees are expected to work the hours required to achieve goals. Minimum 55 hours weekly, with flexibility for overtime, travel, training and urgent issues. Exempt employees must respond to phone, email and text within a timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Overall:
- Develop a Customer Service focus by delivering every package on time, every day.
- Ensure all packages are off the dock by 9 a.m. and manage post‑9 a.m. delivery plans.
- Communicate effectively about undeliverable packages and keep customers informed promptly.
- Leverage company volumes, systems and partnerships to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective service.
- Identify and prioritize logistical needs; recommend actions to upper management.
- Monitor paid percent to contractor and reduce costs.
- Provide data on route analysis, re‑routing, cost and usage alternatives.
- Manage key metrics:
On‑Time Performance, open orders, signature capture, OSD, bar‑code scans, PODs, open forms, Returns, status codes. - Adhere to vision and communicate daily with contractors to achieve company goals.
- React to unexpected issues promptly and proactively address requests from all stakeholders.
- Respond to email, text and calls in a timely manner.
- Blue Streak Employees:
- Read the employee handbook annually.
- Train, supervise and hold employees accountable.
- Communicate performance standards and review them with staff.
- Interview associates and recommend hires.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, hours, lunch breaks, DOT compliance and correct as appropriate.
- Ensure safety manual completion and safe practices.
- Motivate staff via recognition.
- Conduct performance reviews at 90 days and annually.
- Independent Contractors:
- Read and understand the annual contract.
- Interview contractors regularly; maintain a full driver pool.
- On‑board new contractors with background checks, system setup, documentation and uniform compliance.
- Ensure service commitment, mobile technology usage, bar‑code and signature scanning, document attachment, VPOP/VPOD compliance.
