As an Accountant I, you will perform front‑end transactional accounting processes, manage vendor and public communications, and prepare financial reports for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. Your responsibilities include data entry, voucher coding, and analysis of financial data to support agency operations.
Responsibilities- Perform front‑end transactional accounting processes, including data entry and form completion.
- Code vouchers for identification and tracking.
- Compute amounts to be disbursed or collected following established procedures.
- Sort, file, and maintain accounting correspondence and records.
- Generate, extract, compile, and analyze financial data for reports and statements.
- Maintain communication with vendors, agency personnel, and the public to provide information and resolve inquiries.
- Educate staff and billing entities on billing processes and agency policies.
- Review accounting documents for completeness and compliance with requirements.
- Apply accounting principles, including double‑entry concepts and GAAP standards.
- Perform mathematical computations involving percentages, fractions, and basic operations.
- Work independently, manage multiple tasks, and make informed decisions.
- Learn and implement specific agency accounting systems, regulations, and procedures.
- Post‑high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field,

* * experience performing accounting functions, including interpreting and analyzing financial data. - Associate’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with computer software programs, including Enterprise One (E1).
- Experience classifying, reconciling, and maintaining accounting transactions.
- Computer and data‑entry experience.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Pass a pre‑employment medical exam, a drug test, and successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
