DescriptionThe University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry seeks an Assistant / Associate Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Preventive Sciences, Division of Oral Diagnosis & Radiology. The selected faculty member will work under the supervision of the Division Head of Oral Diagnosis & Radiology and will be responsible for teaching didactic and clinical courses in Oral Medicine and Oral Diagnosis for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students.
The Assistant / Associate Professor will serve as a role model for students and the public, and will ensure a well-rounded learning experience for students. Intramural faculty practice opportunities are also available.
- Promote and practice evidence-based didactic and clinical learning and teaching.
- Lead and assist in course development, curriculum planning, mapping, implementation, evaluation, updates, reporting, schedules, and preclinic and clinical assignments and instruction.
- Prepare and update all course materials in a timely way.
- Develop and manage the Oral Medicine curriculum to ensure compliance with the College's mission, accreditation standards, and institutional policy and procedures.
- Employ a variety of teaching methods to accommodate students' diverse learning styles.
- Serve as a course director, as needed and assigned, and deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops, ensuring students develop competency in evidence-based practices.
- Student advising and mentoring.
- Collaborate with other faculty and provide oversight for the development, administration, and analysis of Oral Medicine courses and student progress for didactic and clinical courses.
- Provide direct clinical supervision of students and oversee student procedures and patient care in clinics.
- Remain in the clinic for the duration of assigned sessions and supervise students during patient care.
- Provide consultations for patients as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge in oral medicine, oral diagnosis, orofacial pain, and temporomandibular disorders.
- Supervise and grade all clinical procedures performed by students.
- Administer and assess clinical skills in accordance with course objectives identified in the course syllabi.
- Work amongst/as a supervising dentist(s) to authorize radiographs to meet patient needs.
- Evaluate and interpret dental radiographs and determine if additional radiographs are necessary.
- Respond to emergency situations and implement emergency procedures.
- Share information about students' needs, attendance, and achievement with the Division Head and other faculty members.
- Monitor student performance and provide timely feedback.
- Be available for students during regular working hours.
- Attend regularly scheduled department/faculty calibration meetings.
- Participate in required trainings, orientations, and college-required activities.
- Maintain professional growth through research, continuing education, professional seminars, and regional or national meetings.
- Serve on committees, participate in professional development, and provide service.
- Assist in the Division of Oral Diagnosis & Radiology accreditation process.
- Perform other duties delegated by the Division Head of Oral Diagnosis & Radiology
- Supervise student organizations and volunteer activities.
- Mentor students and faculty in research projects, publications, and presentations.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in dentistry, integrating them into teaching and clinical practice.
- Ensure that instruction meets or exceeds standards established by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation.
