Job Description

THE PROGRAM:
Upward Bound is a federally funded educational opportunity program that prepares eligible high school students to enter and succeed in post-secondary education. The three-week program includes academic, cultural, and recreational activities.

POSITION:
Camp Counselors/Tutors must monitor Upward Bound students while on campus, to promote educational aspiration and performance; supervise students' free time; lead small groups, including planning and facilitating educational, cultural, and recreational events; maintain communication with academic staff regarding students' progress in classes; assume responsibilities for assigned aspects of residence hall programs; handle routine discipline problems; provide tutoring and advising to individuals and groups of students;

assist in monitoring the Food and Nutrition Program; promote a community of mutual respect and trust. Seven Camp Counselors/Tutors will be hired for the preparation and duration of the annual Upward Bound Summer Session beginning June 15, 2026 through July 7, 2026. This position is ideal for graduate students, college sophomores | juniors | seniors, as well as former and current teachers | counselors.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • College students must be a sophomore, junior, or senior level student concluding May 2026.
  • Must serve as a positive role model and have the ability to establish rapport with high school students. Experience supervising youth is preferred
  • Must have a solid academic record and excellent people skills. Experience leading small groups and tutoring is desirable.
  • Must have strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be willing to be a hands-on team player with staff and students.
COMPENSATION:
$1000 for the three-week program (Monday through Thursday each week), including mandatory advance training and planning time; six hours paid tuition to be used Summer or Fall of 2026 (valued at $1419).
