Instructor or Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Anatomy and Physiology
The Department of Agriculture, Biology & Health Sciences at Cameron University invites applications for the position of Instructor or Assistant Professor of Biology (tenure track). This position will begin in August 2026 and is a full time, ten month faculty position that is renewable annually with satisfactory performance.
Responsibilities include a standard 24 load hour annual teaching assignment (12 hours per term) including undergraduate courses in human anatomy, human physiology, and other courses that support the B.S. in Biology and the A.S. in Allied Health Sciences degrees at Cameron University. Other courses in the area of expertise may be taught and/or developed, depending on the needs of the department.
Candidates should be able to teach in a variety of formats including online. Teaching assignments will include the Cameron University campus in Duncan, OK and the main campus in Lawton, OK. Additional duties will include: active participation in service, scholarship, and required university, school, and department functions; mentoring undergraduate students in research; advising students; participating in program assessment; online course development;
participating in recruiting and retention efforts; participating in departmental governance; and other duties as assigned.
Promotion and tenure require demonstrated teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and service. Teaching effectiveness is demonstrated through multiple means, including but not limited to student evaluations, peer evaluations, course and curriculum development, development or incorporation of innovative teaching approaches/materials, and continued intellectual development. The department embraces scholarship in all of its forms, including the scholarship of discovery, the scholarship of integration, the scholarship of application, and the scholarship of teaching.
Development of a program of scholarly study that involves undergraduate students is especially valued. Service includes service and leadership to the department and the university, and service to the public or the profession. Faculty are evaluated annually in the areas of teaching effectiveness, service, and scholarship.
This position requires an MS in biology or related field to qualify at the Instructor rank and a Ph.D. in biology or a terminal degree in a related area to qualify at the Assistant Professor rank, with experience in the areas of human anatomy and human physiology. Applicants who are doctoral degree candidates may be considered for this tenure track position, but if hired and the degree has not been earned by the start of the employment period the initial appointment will be made at the rank (and salary) of Instructor and will only be converted upon documented completion of the degree, in accord with the conditions specified in the offer letter.
Ph.D. in biology or a terminal degree in a closely related area with graduate hours in the areas of anatomy and/or physiology. Demonstrated successful higher education teaching experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will be broadly trained in biology and will contribute across the curriculum.
