Job SummaryClient is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care within an Acute Behavioral Health facility. The RN will care for adolescent psychiatric patients and must be comfortable floating between units as needed. This role requires strong assessment, crisis management, and therapeutic communication skills to ensure patient safety and recovery in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, and evaluate nursing care for psychiatric and behavioral health patients
- Monitor patient conditions, behaviors, and responses to treatment plans
- Administer medications and treatments safely using Omnicell medication dispensing systems
- Provide crisis intervention and therapeutic communication techniques
- Collaborate with healthcare teams including psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary staff
- Maintain accurate documentation utilizing paper charting systems
- Process physician orders using HCS (Healthcare Communication System)
- Participate in treatment planning and patient education activities
- Ensure patient safety while maintaining a therapeutic and supportive environment
- Adhere to facility policies, behavioral health standards, and regulatory requirements
- Acute Behavioral Health Facility
- Acute Adolescent Population
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6–8
- Paper Charting Environment
- HCS used for physician orders
- Omnicell used for medication management
- Must float to all units as needed
- Active Registered Nurse license
- Behavioral Health / Psychiatric Nursing experience required
- Experience working with adolescent psychiatric patients strongly preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced acute behavioral health environment
- Strong assessment, communication, de-escalation, and crisis management skills
- Flexibility to float between units based on facility needs
- Prior experience in acute psychiatric stepdown units
- Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing
- Registered Nurse (RN) license – Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
- Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Certification – Preferred
