Job Description
This position is located at the Forensic Science Center within the Support Services Division in Edmond, Oklahoma. The basic purpose of this position involves skilled carpentry work in a state agency, facility, or institution, including the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings, structures, or fixtures.
Responsibilities- Assist with the daily operations of OSBI owned facilities by monitoring building systems and implementing corrective action, and may travel overnight as required.
- Perform carpentry work in the construction or renovation of buildings or additions to existing structures, alter and repair doors, floors, partitions, stairways, screens, and other fixtures, and maintain and repair roofs.
- Ensure agency vehicles are serviced and maintained per service guidelines with local vendors.
- Oversee and assist with agency maintenance contracts to ensure proper repairs and appearance of facilities.
- Perform carpentry work by erecting and maintaining scaffolds, sheds, forms, frames, fences, and other structures; alter and repair doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows, screens, and other fixtures; fit and glaze glass in windows and doors; maintain and repair roofs.
- Install, replace, alter, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, traps, faucets; make minor repairs to laundry equipment, sterilization equipment, kitchen equipment, and other equipment involving water, steam, air, or other feed line and return or waste disposal lines.
- Maintain and repair light fixtures, receptacles, and switches; replace light bulbs; maintain generators and motors; oil and clean motors; troubleshoot and make electrical repairs not requiring a license.
- Maintain and make minor repairs to heating, refrigeration, and air‑conditioning equipment such as components, pumps, fans, humidifiers, electric motors, and heat exchangers.
- Install and maintain locks and other security devices; repair or replace tumblers, springs, and other parts; cut new or duplicate keys; use files, hand tools, and special equipment to change combinations or shorten tumblers.
- Construct, maintain, and repair concrete and other foundations; build retaining walls, walks, fireplaces, chimneys, stairways, and similar projects; mix mortar and lay common brick, face brick, cinder brick, concrete block, stone, terra cotta, or other materials.
- Operate, maintain, and repair various types of equipment used in construction and maintenance of buildings and grounds, such as trucks, tractors, bulldozers, power shovels, cranes or semi‑trailer tractors, forklifts, mowers, and edgers.
Four (4) years of experience in one or more building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies- Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, fixtures, tools, and equipment used in various building and maintenance trades; and of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Skill to use various tools and equipment to construct, maintain, or repair various types of structures or equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
