Automotive Worker
The Automotive Worker repairs, rebuilds, or makes minor repairs of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. Work involves most of the following:
Servicing vehicles to keep in good working condition; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; addressing and adjusting valves; and repairing fuel injections, lighting, and ignition systems. This role is often entry level mechanical services centered.
- Performs minor service and repairs on areas such as battery checks/replacements, tire rotation, repairs. Types include those in commercial, industrial, or tactical use such as passenger cars, trucks, forklift trucks and warehouse tractors.
- Wash, polish, and clean vehicle exteriors and interiors.
- Drain, flush, and replace engine, transmission and differential oils and greases.
- Check, clean, calibrate and replace spark plugs.
- Replace oil and air filters.
- Adjust brakes and replace windshield wipers.
- Assist on major overhaul jobs by disassembling, cleaning, and repairing components like generators, water pumps, thermostats, points, and electrical wiring.
- Maintain tools and equipment; keep work areas clean and organized.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Requires attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and ability to follow safety procedures.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to read US Army service and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
- Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 investigation result, obtain and maintain a CAC.
- Applicant must possess a REAL
-compliant, state-issued driver's license.
Qualifications:
- Attendance and award of 91B military occupational specialty preferred.
- Automotive service or maintenance facility experience preferred.
- Lifting and Carrying:
Frequently lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects, sometimes up to 60 pounds. - Mobility and Balance:
Extensive walking (up to 10 kilometers a day), climbing up/down, bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. - Strength and Endurance:
Using muscles for long periods, including working in cramped or awkward spaces. - Environmental Factors:
Working in extreme hot or cold temperatures, in all weather conditions, and with exposure to loud noise or vibration. - Safety and Sensory Needs:
Must possess good, sometimes aided, vision (including color distinction) and hearing, as well as the ability to climb on and off moving or stationary equipment.
