Position: McKINNEY-VENTO, NEGLECTED, DELINQUENT AND FOSTER CARE ASSISTANT

McKinney-Vento, Neglected, Delinquent and Foster Care Assistant Job Objective:

To provide assistance to the LPS McKinney-Vento Coordinator to ensure that McKinney-Vento children and youth, Foster Care students, and students in the Neglected and Delinquent facilities are enrolled in, and have a full and equal opportunity to succeed in schools of the local school district.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School transcript or equivalent; experience working in Infinite Campus; experience working in a clerical assistant position

Preferred Qualifications:

Bilingual; experience working in Lawton Public Schools

12-month full time contract:

Salary determined based on experience, degree or certifications

Responsibilities

To provide assistance to the McKinney-Vento Coordinator to meet the job expectations of the 10 Duties of the McKinney-Vento Liaison under ESSA.

  • Identification:
    Ensuring children and youth are identified by school personnel through outreach and coordination with community agencies.
  • Enrollment:
    Ensuring students are enrolled in school immediately and have a full and equal opportunity to succeed in school.
  • Educational Services & Preschool:
    Ensuring families, children and youth have access to and receive educational services for which they are eligible, including Head Start and preschool programs.
  • Referrals to Services:
    Providing referrals to health, dental, mental health, housing, substance abuse, and other appropriate services.
  • Information & Participation:
    Informing parents/guardians of educational opportunities and providing meaningful opportunities to participate in their child's education.
  • Public Notice of Rights:
    Disseminating public notice of educational rights in locations frequented by parents, guardians and unaccompanied youth, including schools, shelters, and libraries and soup kitchens, in an understandable manner & form.
  • Dispute Resolution:
    Mediating enrollment disputes in accordance with McKinney-Vento requirements.
  • Transportation:
    Informing families/youth about transportation services (including the school of origin) and assisting them in accessing it.
  • Professional Development:
    Training school staff and personnel on identifying and supporting McKinney-Vento students.
  • Unaccompanied Youth Support:
    Ensure unaccompanied youth are enrolled in school, have opportunities to meet the same challenging academic standards as other children and youth, including receiving partial credits and information of their status as independent students for the FAFSA.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Collaboration:

    Working with community organizations to support students.
  • Identification:
    Processing all Student Residency Questionnaires to provide student services to support equal educational access.
  • Data Collection Supporting the collection of reliable, valid, and comprehensive data. Completing data entry in Infinite Campus for the McKinney-Vento, Foster Care, Neglected and Delinquent status of students.
  • Transportation:
    Ensure and provide transportation for students as needed using LPS vehicle.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Federal Programs
Specialized Knowledge And Skills
  • Be able to protect the confidentiality of information pertaining to students, staff and program matters as appropriate.
  • Ability to work independently in all aspects of the position and to deal with changing priorities.
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with parents and staff with an even disposition, patience and knowledge of telephone etiquette
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively in stressful situations.
  • Extensive oral and written communication skills necessary.
  • Must possess good typing, bookkeeping, spelling and grammar skills.
  • Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: business telephone etiquette; standard office machines; and office methods and practices; good computer and organizational skills
  • Considerable knowledge of computer skills including charts, spreadsheets, complex word processing and templates.
Physical Requirements

Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.

  • Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving light work-related supplies/equipment, frequent stooping kneeling, crouching and significant fine finger dexterity. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Duties require using a computer keyboard and monitor, standing, reaching, bending, crouching and/or kneeling.
