Thumbnail Designer | A for Adley & Shonduras / Best Day Ever

We're a family of channels built around the McBride family. A for Adley is one of the biggest kids' channels on You Tube. Best Day Ever is Shaun's daily-vlog channel that started it all. Spacestation Animation turns those same stories into cartoons, including Rainbow Ghosts, and Family Cartoons every Sunday. Our audience is 6 to 12-year-olds. We make things we'd want our own kids to watch, and we've been doing it every week for ten years.

We're looking for a thumbnail artist who knows how to stop a scroll. Someone who understands that catching a kid's attention is much different than catching an adult's.

The parent standing behind that kid has to trust what they see. The big-face, big-text, typical AI style that plagues You Tube these days is not the answer here. We need people who understand what works for our audience, or are at least willing to learn. We prefer to use as much real footage as possible to accurately represent the content.

Using the natural screen pulls (and the occasional posed thumbnail picture) you will be telling a story through the thumbnails you create. You'll need to have an eye for composition.

• Concept and design thumbnails for either the A for Adley or Best Day Ever with different variations / directions for the channel
• Sit in the weekly thumbnail session with Shaun and the main channel editors to decide what promise each video is making to communicate through the thumbnail
• Mostly compositing from video, plus planning and shooting thumbnails on filming days.
• Generate options fast, iterate on notes, and options for A/B testing
• Maintain thumbnail readability on different sizes of screens (phone, TV, monitor, etc)
• Keep up-to-date with current trends in children's media to find out what works and what doesn't

• A portfolio of You Tube thumbnails with real performance - CTR, A/B wins, before/afters or mock-ups that prove you understand the format if you haven't had that opportunity yet yourself
• A real eye for facial expression, composition, and color at small sizes
• Someone coachable who wants notes, not someone who wants to be left alone
• Good energy, curiosity, and work ethic. We hire 51% on who you are and 49% on what you can do. The 49% can be taught.
