Lead General Engineer; Systems

Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is seeking a full‑time Technical Expert Lead General Engineer (Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test) within the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, Digital Capabilities Division at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The position (986878) is classified as NH‑0801‑04 and offers a 2026 salary range of $125,776–$192,331. Recruitment, relocation, retention and student loan incentives may be authorized.

• Guide and lead a diverse team of government employees, government support contractors, and other stakeholders in developing, integrating, and implementing technical solutions to complex problems, ensuring a flexible, low‑risk approach and delivery of digital system capabilities to meet program milestones.
• Provide program leadership and technical guidance on systems engineering artifacts (requirements and architecture), establish modeling standards and oversee governance and development activities.
• Engage in engineering activities including concept planning, design and development, integration, evaluation, and auditing of SEIT artifacts, documents and products; identify and resolve highly complex technical problems related to digital system design and development.
• Lead the technical development of team and contractor work products, partner with mission team members and contractors and participate in technical review boards and contractor reviews.
• Advise on systems engineering and digital engineering methodologies, mentor the team to consider multiple aspects of the system and their impact on performance and integration.
• Engage with extended and geographically dispersed stakeholders—subject matter experts from the ICBM Systems Directorate, Air Force Global Strike Command, support contractors, and DoD partners—to plan, coordinate and execute technical activities.

• Minimum 7–10 years of relevant large‑scale systems engineering experience within a complex digital system architecture, including risk assessment for a multimillion‑dollar defense program.
• Strong technical engineering skills to serve as a senior subject‑matter expert, identify technical gaps, and develop action plans and schedules.
• Proven leadership and mentoring ability to guide team members across the Directorate, translating complex engineering concepts into actionable guidance.
• Advanced expertise in system architecture design, Unified Modeling Language (UML), and Systems Modeling Language (SysML).
• Hands‑on experience with Cameo Enterprise Architect or a comparable modeling platform.
• Broad engineering experience preferred.
• Depth of experience in integrating systems engineering efforts from multiple teams in an enterprise.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and handle classified information with the required safeguards.
• Compliance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978—requirement to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon appointment and annually thereafter.
• Engineer candidates must meet the specialized professional engineering experience requirements cited in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) General Schedule qualification standards (0800 series).
• Employees must satisfy Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, achieving the Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within the required timeframe after appointment.
