We are seeking an Engineer Specialist, System Planning to be a recognized technical authority. The role involves network build and hydraulic analysis for our natural gas distribution network in Salt Lake City, Utah. You will be the key point of contact for system planning and hydraulic modeling, responsible for all network simulation to ensure optimum flexibility and operability of systems — including the creation and maintenance of distribution system models, design and simulation, winter and seasonal system operating characteristics and monitoring, and emergency support.
You Will Do
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching while driving cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead annual load gathering, simulation, and forecasting activities, including oversight of supporting systems and integrations.
- Deliver hydraulic modeling, operational analysis, contingency planning, and winter operations support to ensure safe, reliable gas supply.
- Develop cost-effective reinforcement, expansion, and resiliency strategies through asset management planning, long-range forecasting, and infrastructure investment analysis.
- Lead all aspects of network integrity, major project coordination, and commercial/industrial load additions, ensuring compliance with technical standards and minimizing system risk.
- Lead reinforcement and replacement programs, prepare regulatory evidence and reports, and support regulatory applications, hearings, and stakeholder engagements.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from ABET-accredited university.
- 7+ years of experience in natural gas distribution, or 10+ years of engineering experience.
- Professional designation (PE) is preferred.
- Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills, capable of managing competing priorities and delivering results.
- Customer-focused with strong negotiation skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients, customers, and landowners.
- In-depth knowledge of natural gas distribution codes, standards, policies, and procedures, with proven ability to develop strategy, improve processes, and drive business outcomes across departments.
