GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Publisher & President of Gibbs Smith Education provides strategic, creative, and operational leadership for the Education segment. This role sets vision, drives sustainable growth, and oversees the development, delivery, and performance of educational products and services. This position reports to the Gibbs Smith Board of Directors. Serving on the Executive Leadership Team, the Publisher & President partners with leaders across Gibbs Smith to strengthen the company's long‑term success while advancing its mission as a certified B Corp and employee‑owned organization.

The role champions cross‑functional collaboration, builds strong relationships across the publishing and education communities, and fosters a culture where people, planet, and profit thrive together.

STRATEGIC & BUSINESS LEADERSHIP
  • Develop and execute the long‑term strategic vision for Gibbs Smith Education in alignment with company priorities.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities, industry trends, and strategic partnerships that position the company for sustainable growth.
  • Lead organizational change with clarity, transparency, and respect while maintaining alignment with the company's mission and values.
  • Serve as an active contributor to enterprise‑wide strategic planning and organizational initiatives.
  • Hold overall responsibility for the Education segment's financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Establish measurable goals and KPIs that drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure sound financial stewardship through effective planning, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Balance short‑term operational priorities with long‑term investment and innovation.
PUBLISHING & SEGMENT LEADERSHIP
  • Provide leadership for the development, production, sales and delivery of high‑quality educational publishing programs.
  • Champion product innovation while maintaining the highest standards of editorial excellence, educational quality, and customer value.
  • Build and strengthen strategic relationships with educators, partners, distributors, and industry organizations.
  • Ensure the segment remains responsive to evolving educational standards, technologies, and marketplace needs.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and empower an exceptional leadership team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Build consensus across diverse perspectives while making thoughtful and timely decisions.
  • Ensure organizational structures, systems, and processes effectively support company objectives.
COMPANY‑WIDE LEADERSHIP
  • Serve as a collaborative member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to the overall success of Gibbs Smith.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ten years of leadership experience within educational publishing or a related industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Education is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic growth, organizational development, and financial performance.
  • Strong understanding of educational publishing, curriculum development, product development, and go‑to‑market strategy.
  • Proven experience leading diverse, cross‑functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship‑building, and organizational leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel to Utah headquarters quarterly, or as needed.
