Job Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients. The RN utilizes the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence‑based practice, and coordination with other health team members.
PRN Expectations- Must have at least one year of ER experience
- Must work a minimum of 24 hours per schedule period
- Must work 6 hours of weekend per 8‑week schedule
- PRN caregivers will be required to work holiday or hard‑to‑fill shifts depending on departmental needs at the current time
- Assess:
Perform appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communication, and developmental skills. Seek and evaluate information from interdisciplinary team members. - Plan:
Use assessment information and critical thinking to develop individualized plan of care. Include patient, family, team, and physician involvement and education. - Implement:
Direct the interdisciplinary care team, delegate, coordinate, collaborate. Provide or delegate care consistent with plan of care and guidelines. Prioritize and manage time, supplies, and resources. - Evaluate:
Evaluate patient response to interventions, review achievement of goals, clinical outcomes, satisfaction. Revise plan as indicated. - Professionalism:
Promote nursing profession, develop others. Integrate legal and ethical standards, comply with regulations, practice within scope, provide accurate documentation.

- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice.
- RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of hire.
- Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- BSN required as of 4/27/2025. Hiring prior to this date will be held to prior requirements.
- Need to see, read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors.
- Frequent verbal communication with patients, providers, and visitors, especially during emergencies.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment; frequent keyboard use for documentation.
- Expected to lift and transfer patients, bend, carry supplies up to heavy weights.
- Walk and assist with transporting patients, moving equipment, navigating busy rooms.
- May required to stand for extended periods.
- For driving roles: expected to drive vehicles, read signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
Intermountain Health Layton Hospital, Layton, Utah.
Schedule & CompensationScheduled weekly hours: 0 (PRN). Hourly rate: $34.53 – $52.25, dependent on experience.
