The Senior Wastewater Operator I / II ensures the City's wastewater treatment plants comply with State permit requirements and coordinates a team of crewmen in making the City's wastewater safe. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job.
Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Analyses, monitors, collects, calculates, and records wastewater samples during treatment and makes biological modifications through treatment process.
- Collect samples regarding state and federal data and prepares reports recording their findings.
- Monitors and records plant operations involving wastewater flows, chemical additives, preventive and repair maintenance, instrumentation operation, operation and adjustment of pumps, operates dewatering equipment, wastewater analysis, and facility record keeping.
- Conducts preventive equipment maintenance activities - grease, repair, adjust, clean, paint, calibrate, lubricate, etc. plant equipment and instrumentation.
- Conducts facility maintenance and cleaning including sweeping and cleaning inside work areas along with outside facility grounds.
- Records instrument and equipment readings, making necessary calculations. Records results and reports abnormal situations to supervisor and files records.
- Maintain tanks, basins, UV systems and blowers for proper operation of WW treatment facilities;
Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and replacement of Wastewater equipment. - Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
- Subject to on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend availability, including overtime as needed.
- Performs all duties of the Senior Wastewater Operator I
- Trains and supervises Wastewater Operator I & II.
- Provides secondary supervision for the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the absence of the Chief Plant Operator.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports to cover all quality control activities and operations phases, ensuring compliance with Federal and State permits.
- Must pass all proficiency requirements.
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
Required- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Valid Driver's License
Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- Class "C" Wastewater Operator License
Must meet all required minimum qualifications in addition to the following:
- Class "B" Wastewater Operator License
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience that offer the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be substituted or assessed at the City's discretion.
Knowledge of:- Wastewater collection and treatment processes.
- Principles and procedures involved in for diverse wastewater treatment.
- Operation and maintenance of treatment equipment.
- Proficient in sampling techniques and adept at maintaining meticulous record-keeping.
- Effective communication and strong teamwork.
- Prioritize and supervise work assignments.
- Promptly Identify variances and troubleshoot issues.

Additionally, it necessitates fine dexterity and acute awareness of surroundings, utilizing senses of vision, hearing, and verbal communication.
Employees will work in adverse weather conditions such as high temperatures, humidity, prolonged sun exposure, rain, and sleet. Work may also involve contact with chemicals, fumes, dust, insects, noxious plants, snakes, and other wildlife.
