Overview
The purpose of this position is to perform utility line locates to minimize damage to city infrastructure by excavators working in League City. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Responsibilities- Executes line locates initiated by the Texas 811 system and notifications from contractors
- Processes line locate requests by marking water, sanitary and Stormwater lines and closing the tickets in the 811 system
- Meet with contractors excavating in League City to ensure utilities are properly marked to avoid damage
- Completes daily work orders
- Performs on-call duties 24/7 as assigned
- Performs related work as required
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City’s citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least one year of experience in utility maintenance and construction
- Valid driver's license
- Class D Water license or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment
- Class I Wastewater Collections license or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment
- Class C Water license or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment
- English grammar, spelling, punctuation
- City and State regulations and ordinances
- Water/sewer equipment and repairs
- Water distribution and wastewater systems
- Line locate rules and regulations
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
- Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
- Reading and interpreting construction drawings
- Accessing and processing line locates through the 811 system
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Operate heavy equipment
- Make decisions
- Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
- Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries
